International Women's Day 2023

This year at Suvera, we've decided to give International Women's day the attention it deserves. We're having International Women's month!

Before we begin, we use the word women a lot in this blog post. To be clear, for us the term women includes everyone who identifies as one.

This year's International Women's Day hashtag is #EmbraceEquity, which spotlights the call for gender parity and celebrates the achievements of women and those identifying as women.

Focusing on equality and equity in 2023

Not many people realise that International Women's Day is over 100 years old, but sadly the call for gender equity continues and remains more relevant than ever. We only need to look at the shocking statistics and the media to see how this lack of equity plays out.

At one end, we see it play out in our workplaces, healthcare, and domestic spheres. At the other end, we see the extreme in countries that systematically curtail the rights of women and those identifying as women.

You don't need to look too far to see this happening now. We only need to reflect on recent events in the USA, a place that calls itself one of the most "civilised nations" in the world. The devastating overturning of Roe vs Wade in 2022 ended the rights of American women to choose what they did with their bodies in one fell swoop.

We know how overwhelming this can feel and believe it's important to consider the little things we all do day-to-day that makes a difference in our corner of the world.

What we're doing for International Women's Day

International Women's Day continues to matter now more than ever. So in March, we'll be spotlighting and celebrating the marvellous women who work at Suvera.

We're proud to have an (almost!) gender-balanced leadership team - we know that makes what we do and how we do it even better. And with a team made up of 60% women, we don't just think we should celebrate them; we know we must.

Celebrating our colleagues shouldn't just be for one day, and we’re looking forward to sharing details of our activities later this month.
